WordPress plugin: easily add a newsletter signup form to your WordPress web site

Easily add a newsletter signup form to your WordPress Web site

Using the MailUp plugin for WordPress, you can easily add to a WordPress-based Web site or blog a newsletter signup form integrated with your MailUp account. Here is a visual example of a newsletter subscription form added to a simple WordPress page:

WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

Please note that plugins are not available for WordPress.com (the hosted version of WordPress), but rather only for Web sites and blogs that use the WordPress software that can be downloaded free of charge at WordPress.org. For an explanation of the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, please see: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Installation

  1. Download the free plugin “WP MailUp” from the WordPress Plugin Directory
  2. Upload the plugin to the folder wp-content/plugins
  3. Log into your Web site administration area and activate the plugin in the plugin administration area (wp-admin/plugins.php)
  4. In the widget management area (wp-admin/widgets.php) select the WP MailUp widget and add it wherever you wish the newsletter signup form to appear (e.g. right-side column)
  5. Configure the plugin as described here
How it works

The MailUp plugin for WordPress is very easy to use. Just enter the required data and save the settings. MailUp will take care of the rest. Duplicate subscriptions will automatically be handled by the system (the same e-mail address will never be subscribed twice).

Consistently with email marketing best practices and consumer privacy regulations, MailUp automatically sends a subscription confirmation request to the email addressed entered in the signup form. The subscription to the newsletter becomes active only after the recipient confirms it. If you want to, however, you can disable this feature through the configuration settings.

The design of the newsletter signup form can be modified by editing the cascading style sheet that is used to style it. For more information on how to do so, see the article on modifying the look of the MailUp plugin for WordPress.

Important Notes
  • If you enter incorrect MailUp account credentials, the plugin will not show an error message when a subscriber enters an address in the form. The request will simply be ignored by MailUp.
  • If addresses entered in the form are not appearing in the connected MailUp console, make sure that the credentials have been entered correctly, and look at section where Pending recipients are stored: maybe the issue is just that the subscription has not been confirmed.
  • If you know that the credentials have been correctly entered, but the plugin is still not working properly, make sure that the WordPress installation has the necessary read and write permissions.
  • Remember that Web sites and blogs hosted at WordPress.com do not support plugins. See above about the differences between WordPress.org and WordPress.com.
More advanced integrations

Need more power? You can leverage the MailUp API for more advanced integrations between WordPress and MailUp. For example, you could send a message or check message statistics.

You can look at the MailUp plugin for WordPress as a starting point. The MailUp API provides a number of Web services that allow a developer to tap into many of the system's advanced multichannel direct marketing features.
