BASICS KNOWLEDGE:

Groups are further division inside a List. This is for friendly manage send operation. For other informations on groups' division, visit this page.

Every group is related to the List to which it belongs and, it's uniquely identified from a code (to see this code go to "Settings => CODES TABLE") and a name. You can use this code with some integration procedure (as web service) or for customize subscription form.

There isn't limit for number of groups in a single List and every group haven't limits of subscribers.

Every recipient can belongs, at the same time, to more groups. For example, John Smith, can belong to men's group and english's group.

From List and group, the major priority for the subscribe status is of the List: if a recipient is unsubscribed from a List, he/she will not be present in the other groups even! If he/she will subscribe again, the group's membership will be restored.

From the menu "Groups => GROUPS LIST" it's possible to see all the groups present in the List (the default groups are: "TEST", "AUTOMATICALLY UPDATED ADDRESSES" and "Subscribed using a social networks account") and make some operations.

* see the list of recipients belongs to a group (this page open the list of subscribers automatically set a filter on the group).
* modify the group: it's possible to change the group's name and his note.
* delete the group: clicking on the "DELETE" button at the bottom of the page, the selected groups will be deleted.

GROUP'S MANAGEMENT:

How to create a new group:
To add a new group to a List go to "Groups => GROUPS LIST". You just have to write the group's name and click on "ADD".
You can also create a group when you make some operations inside MailUp console, like import recipients,.

From "Groups => GROUPS LIST" you can change the name and the related note of the group, clicking on the edit's icon.

Set recipients for a group:
There are different way to do this, one to one or massive assignment. Below there's the four main methods:

1.   Page "Groups => GROUPS/RECIPIENTS DETAILS" displays all the recipient's List. At the top of the page you can select the groups that you want the recipients belong (click on VIEW button) and than select the related recipients. After checking the box, click on "APPLY CHANGES" button at the bottom of the page. With Lists that have more and more recipients you can use the "SELECT ALL" and "DESELECT ALL" buttons, that allow you to move or copy all recipients from a group to another.

2. In the page "Recipients => SUBSCRIBED EMAIL" you can, with the yellow menu at the bottom of the page, change the belonging of a recipient through some filters:
  • From the dropdown menu, you can choose the destination group:
  • The "COPY" button copy the recipients from a group to another (John Smith will belong to group "A" and group "B" at the same time).
  • The "MOVE" button move the recipients from a group to another (John Smith will belong only to destination group, for example only to group "B").
This yellow menu is also present in other pages where there's list of recipients (for example in some statistics page) and you can use them at the same way.

3. In the first step of the import procedure, we allow you to choose a new destination group. In this way you can identify new recipients and friendly manage them in next event.

4. In the edit's page of a recipient you can select which groups belong, set the appropriate box!

Delete a group and remove recipients from groups.
From "Groups => GROUPS LIST" you must check the "DELETE" coloumns of the groups that you want to delete and click on "DELETE" button at the bottom of the page. Pay attention to NOT check the two options at the bottom of the page.

Deleting a group you don't delete the recipients related to that group. They will remain in the other groups of belong, or in no one if they were subscribed only to the group deleted.
With the two options at the bottom of the page you can remove the group and the related recipients, or only remove the recipients that belong to the selected group.

Note that, if you remove the recipients, they will not appear in the console and you will have to reimport them again (also statistics data will not appear).

HOW TO USE THE GROUPS:

When you send a Newsletter, you can choose the recipients of entire List, only one address or one or more GROUPS. Choosing the right groups you can better targets your send and maximize newsletter's efficacy.

If you select more groups for the send and a recipient belong to two or more groups selected, he/she will receive only one message.

Also, it's possible select some groups that will not receive the newsletter: in the send page, clicking on "EXCLUDE GROUPS", you can select the groups, then the recipients, that will not receive the newsletter.
For example, if you want to send to all the recipients, excluding the recipients of "TEST" group, you can select the list as recipients and "TEST" as group to exclude.

Groups are one of the main criteria to choose in recipients export operation: first, going to "Recipients => SUBSCRIBED EMAIL",  filter and assign recipients to a group. Then in "Recipients => EXPORT" you can select the previous group as filter of the recipients to export.

In differents statistics' page you can filter recipients using belong groups.
