Our system gives you access to five different methods for unsubscribing recipients:

1) DOUBLE OPT-OUT WITH CONFIRMATION PAGE
2) SINGLE OPT-OUT
3) DOUBLE OPT-OUT STANDARD
4) OPT-OUT WITH OPTIONS
5) MANUAL UNSUBSCRIBE

In this article, we'll describe each of these methods.

List Specific Setting

This is a list-specific setting. You will need to configure it for each list, and you can use a different setting for different lists, if needed.

To do so, follow these steps:
  • Go to "Settings> EDIT LISTS".
  • Locate the list to modify and click on the Edit icon to do so.
  • Click on "SHOW ADVANCED OPTIONS".
  • Find the "OPT-OUT" setting and select the method you want to apply
  • See below for more information on these options
Unsubscription Confirmation Page

When recipients unsubscribe, they'll see a message that confirms the unsubscrition. You can customize this message by going to Settings > MESSAGES PAGE. In the top portion of the page, you can edit the HTML of the page to change the way the message is displayed. In the lower portion of the page you can edit the message shown. In this case, edit the "Unsubscription completed" message.

Let's now look at the various unsubscribe methods.

First method: DOUBLE OPT-OUT WITH CONFIRMATION PAGE

Recipients wishing to unsubscribe will be presented with a page where they can confirm their preference. This not only allows you to confirm that they didn't click on a wrong link in the message, but also to show them some custom text.
  • Make sure your messages contain an unsubscribe link. The best way to go is to include one in the footer that is used for every message sent (Settings > Footer).
  • To configure the page that will be shown when they click on the unsubscribe link, go to Settings > CUSTOM OPTOUT PAGE. Make sure that the page includes a sentence that allows them to complete the unsubscribe process. For example: "To confirm your intention to unsubscribe, please click here".
  • Highlight the word(s) that you want to turn into the unsubscribe link and click on the UNS button in the HTML editor toolbar (in the case of the message above, you would highlight the words "click here").
  • When customers click on that link, they will be unsubscribed.

Second method: SINGLE OPT -OUT

Recipients wishing to unsubscribe will be unsubscribed immediately when they click on the unsubscribe link in your messages.
  • Make sure your messages contain an unsubscribe link. The best way to go is to include one in the footer that is used for every message sent (Settings > Footer).
  • Make sure that the link is clearly marked as the unsubscribe link as customers that click on it will be instantly unsubscribed. There is no additional step for the customer to take (the customer will not need to confirm the intention to unsubscribe).
Third method: DOUBLE OPT-OUT STANDARD

Recipients wishing to unsubscribe will be presented with a page where they can pick the list(s) that they wish to unsubscribe from.
  • Make sure your messages contain an unsubscribe link. The best way to go is to include one in the footer that is used for every message sent (Settings > Footer).
  • To specify which lists should be shown on the unsubscription selection page, you need to repeat the steps mentioned at the beginning of this document, and set an additional setting. Specifically:
    • Go to Settings > Edit LISTS, select the list to edit and click on the Edit icon.
    • Click on SHOW ADVANCED OPTION
    • Under OPT-OUT, select DOUBLE OPT-OUT STANDARD from the drop-down menu
    • Click on Display Lists: check the lists that you wish to display on the page.
For example, if you have 4 lists: Theater, Cinema, Drama, and Special Events, but you don't want the Special Events list to be shown on the unsubscription confirmation page, you will only select the first 3. If you want all lists to be shown, select them all.

To configure the page that will be shown when they click on the unsubscribe link, go to Settings > CUSTOM OPTOUT PAGE

Fourth method: OPT-OUT WITH OPTIONS

Recipients wishing to unsubscribe will be presented with a page where they can change their preferences, rather than unsubscribe. For example, they may choose to receive those messages, but with a personal vs. a work email address, or indicate that they wish to receive fewer messages.

Make sure your messages contain an unsubscribe link. The best way to go is to include one in the footer that is used for every message sent (Settings > Footer).

Fifth method: MANUAL UNSUBSCRIBE

There are 3 ways to manually unsubscribe recipients. NOTE: it's much better to unsubscribe users than to delete them: if you delete a user, there is a chance that the same email address might be imported again in the future and that you may send that user another message. Instead, if the user has been unsubscribed, that event cannot occur.
  1. Manually unsubscribing a single user
In the administration area, look for a recipient and click on the unsubscribe icon (when listing Recipients > Subscribed) or click on the Edit icon and change the user status from Enabled to Disabled, then click on the Save button at the bottom of the page.

  2. Unsubscribing multiple users via Import
To unsubscribe multiple recipients at the same time, you can import a list of addresses and select IMPORT AS UNSUBSCRIBED (OPT-OUT) in the Advanced Options.

  3. Unsubscribing multiple users via Opt-out Group
Search for the recipients that you wish to unsubscribe. Once you locate them, select the group OPT-OUT UNSUBSCRIBED at the bottom of the page, and then click on the MOVE button.
